Meditation in Chinese is called Ch’an, in Japanese it's
called Zen. What is Ch’an? Ch’an means 'not phased'. That means free from the
temptation of the outer environment. When meditating, keep a peaceful and empty
mind, keep a relaxed and calm heart, with no feeling of annoyance, this is
called Ch’an. Ch’an is not just about sitting down and facing the wall to
meditate everyday. Sitting down and meditating is just one of the ways to be.
Eating, walking, sitting, even sleeping, and indeed all activates, as long as they're not done through
vanity, or temptation, are Ch’an. In other words try and do everything in your
daily life mindfully, through that your whole life becomes Ch'an.
